Been a while I know since I last added anything to the website. I have seriously cut back given that I have such restricted space now. This doesn`t mean that I am not acquiring still the odd goodie... Like the KIM-1 The KIM-1 was the property of a very talented electrical engineer who sadly I never had the opportunity to meet though I was privileged to receive these items. The man in question was a true pioneer of computer technology scuzz
In the beginning there was the KIM
Shortly after the KIM was introduced, MOS Technology Inc was purchased by Commodore International. The production of the KIM lasted only a short while under the CBM label until it was ended. Chuck Peddle progressed work on an expanded version with a full keyboard , cassette drive and monochrome monitor. The ROM was extended to include BASIC... The result was the PET launched in 1977.. and so you can see just how important the KIM was to the whole Commodore range of machines. scuzz
I have no idea just how many photographs there are on this website.. What I do know is that up until today they were all taken by my trusty Epson 850Z. Sadly the camera finally gave up the 'ghosts' and decided not to play ball. Even with the large rubber band clasping the battery bay.. Anyway, for the first time the camera can be featured on these pages as the Panasonic moves in to take over the challenge. Unfortunatley the new camera is not as good as the old.. Isn`t that often the case with new kit :-) scuzz
New kid on the block
Hi Retro Gamer this month and its the turn of that arcade classic Asteroids... ' It's the late summer of 1979 and engineer Ed Logg is preparing for a trip to Old Sacramento California. He packs the retrofit kit for Atari Football designed to upgrade the plays and prolong the games's arcade life. Joining him on the journey is is colleague Collette Weil but Ed decides to take another companion along for the ride: the project he's been working on since the spring. Once at the arcade, his baby is carefully placed among the rows of blinking cabs. There's no fancy silk screen and the cabinet art is incomplete but the lighted panel clearly displays the name of this newborn: Asteroids '..... The rest I guess is history. Classic. Read Retro Gamer . There is also a great article on the making of Legend. scuzz
Again from Sven at Amiga Mart.. ' Hyperion Entertainment VDF has announced the immediate availability a a new software development kit for developing software for Amiga OS 4.1... ' Read on from this weeks Micro Mart. Sven also reports on moves to port Open Video Toaster to the newer Amiga platforms... scuzz
From the pages of Micro Mart and particularly as reported by Sven Harvey in Amiga Mart... ' Wayne Hunt decided to to step down from leading the longest running of the current Amiga web portals and news sites Amiga.org. What's more he has put the site up for sale as an ongoing concern ' Wayne will only sell to someone with a genuine interest in keeping it going in the format that it currently runs in. I do hope this is achieved cus Amiga. org is one my most frequented and loved sites. Fingers crossed. scuzz
[ Quote ] What is Protext? One of the most successful British word processor programs, developed by Peterborough-based Arnor Ltd between 1985 and 1995, Protext has sold over 30,000 copies. Original written for the Amstrad CPC464, Protext was subsequently released for the Amstrad PCW8256, the PC, the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga and the Acorn Archimedes. When Arnor closed in 1995 it seemed that Protext had become another British casualty of the fast-evolving world of computers. But a group of Protext users with professional experience from other areas of business were not prepared to let it go. They formed a partnership called Protext Software with the copyright owners and original programmers and relaunched the program in an new version (v6.7) for the PC. Now, in July 2008, Protext has been issued as freeware and can be downloaded from this web site, completely free of charge. Despite being packed with advanced features, above all the latest versions of Protext remain fast and very easy to use. It is a credit to the programmers that the user-friendly qualities of the original CPC version have been maintained through to this latest one while building in more and more useful features. Earlier this year Lycos decided to withdraw support for their website domain service. That was bad news for me given that I used their service to provide file storage for Amiga dms and lha files. The reason being that Webfusion who host this site do not recognise the lha and dms format. Consequently, whilst I was able to rescue the domains scuzz.org.uk and scuzz-retro.com I decided to update the files so they were compressed into ZIP files. This meant that I could use this Webfusion site for all the files. It follows that I am happy to report that all the files previously dislodged by Lycos are now again available to download.. Including the 1000 Amiga demo disks. Hopefully those that mailed asking me to remedy this issue will now have access again to the Amiga disk images on this site. If anyone does find a broken link or problem then please email me. Been a bit of a needle in the old haystack this one. scuzz
