Cannot believe that it has been seven years since I stopped collecting seriously. Was a sad day in 2008 when I finally decided to give collecting a rest. I was cataloguing an Apricot when I received a message that my cat had died. I found the moment quite reflecting, as I could not find a home for the Apricot and finished up placing it. on the very spot where the cat use to enjoy sleeping I did very little else that month and it was enough to make me stop and take stock. I started playing World of Warcraft and losing myself in that game I needed a break from the collecting to focus on my more serious work life. That was seven years ago and in that time I have managed to avoid Ebay and the temptation of more kit. It has not stopped me enjoying my passion. There is rarely a moment when there are not computers active in this house. I do enjoy playing on the computer, something that will live with me until the day I die. Since November of last year I have been away from work. We have decided to close the office which has allowed me time recharge the batteries. I am in no rush to return to work, and may in time decide to focus all my attention on my hobby. I am an architect by profession, a job which is way too stressful. May sound an easy job designing buildings but in truth the pressure of having to be 100% right all the time, especially when handling millions of pounds of other peoples money is a burden that I am happy to discharge. And so to the first challenge, and it is to find two computers in the great mess of boxes that I have here. The first is an Amiga 2000HD which I am sure has a barrel battery. And, an Amiga 4000d in a tower which I am not sure has the barrel battery. The 2000 was acquired from Germany and came from a guy who was involved with the Amiga Resources site in Germany. I would wire him money and he was always good to his word and the kit would arrive promptly. The 4000 was a gift from a guy in London who for reasons only he knew wanted to part with the kit and give it too me. His collection, like many that I have obtained over the years is a snapshot of a period in time when bedroom computer enthusiasts ruled the world of home computing. I still have all the guys disks and books etc. Just a shame that folk cannot hang onto their treasured possessions. Anyway... my first blog in yonks and am pleased to be able to announce that there may now be a few more in the pipeline. My years of playing Warcraft were not without some retro reward. I recall being in game and a chat started discussing the oldest gaming consoles. This one player started talking about an Apple console being one of the oldest. While still in game I logged into Ebay and found one for sale and bought it. The machine was a PipPin. Just one of the items I have to update with the first update of the website.
