Entry 11th April 2020: Post 01: Amiga 600 - Sonix to the rescue. Day 1.
Amiga 600 - Sonix to the rescue. Day 1.
It has taken me two days to complete this blog featuring the very
wonderful music composing software ' SONIX ' for the Amiga. To do
this I decided to pull an Amiga 600 as I wanted a small computer
that could work off the floppy disks.
First though I have to go back to January of last year when this
poor Amiga 600 kinda bit the bullet. The hard drive was on its
last legs and I was busy copying the contents over using Parnet.
Sadly the hard drive collapsed and then worse the motherboard
failed. I was beside myself with sadness, as this had been one
of my most favoured A600s.
Not taken to giving up I set too replacing the motherboard, but
I was unable to do anything about the hard disk.
Fast forward to yesterday afternoon and I was busy making working
copies of my SONIX disks for this feature and had successfully ran
the copied software and was progressing to get a handle on the
program... When suddenly something magical happened.
THE HARD DRIVE KICKED IN !!!!
I had left the busted hard drive in the A600 as it wasn't doing any
harm. It really didn't make much sound when booted up and simply
was ignored by the OS and ran everything from floppy. I had spent
a good while reading the various guides on the software, when like
magic the original hard disk kicked in.
And so I curtailed my SONIX adventure and booted off the hard drive
and checked the system over. In no time I was again mucking around
with PacMan and Space Invaders so SONIX took a back seat.
I finished the day a happy little bunny.

I was checking that the replacement
keyboard was still working.
Preparing disks to copy SONIX.
Working copies created and ready to play.
Whilst still in the floppy boot
version of SONIX, suddenly the
original hard disk kicked in.
