ScuzzBlog: Diaries April 2026
Entry 3rd April 2026: Post 1: Computers in the round - Bathed in a warm light.
Computers in the round - Bathed in a warm light.
Nothing dates a photograph more than the orange glow of a tungsten
light. I seriously doubt I have any tungsten bulbs left, though I
still find myself referring to lighting other than from my camera
white light as tungsten.
I have now gone through all the very old blogs from distant past
and salvaged but a handful of photographs that I created during
that time. I did find a few nice pics from 2015 when I was first
converting the Workshop into a more useful Amiga space. Prior to
this it really was a dumping ground for various kit and a bench
for repairing and assembling kit. Often I would place items in
here after collecting awaiting a clean up before I photographed
them prior to putting them on the website. In truth nothing dates
the website more that the woodgrain bench on older pics. It was
in 2015-17 that the transition to the grey bench took place, so
making the woodgrain bench redundant. It was then that the bench
became part of the circle of Amigas I refer to as in the round.
At that time the room still had its tungsten lights and I really
do like the first picture of the A1200 Microvitec with the orange
of the room light bathing over the screen. Dunno just feels warm.
Not to be too critical of fellow Amiga users these days but I do
get a little tired of seeing images of current Amiga set ups that
are devoid of any bits and bobs that would litter a normal users
workspace. I sense that the sterile empty white space is the norm
these days. It reflects a kinda mirror of the mobile phone world
that in truth when you pull the plug is like an empty room.
For me the world of computing has always been a cluttered, busy
brightly coloured environment. I love to rest my eyes onto objects
and study their shape and form. I joy at finding something I cannot
recognise at first glance as I slowly decipher its meaning. The
images from magazines, manuals, books and even boxes just add a
wealth of interest to your world, and should be allowed to build
into a tapestry of your activities, a record of what you do. Sadly
a sterile empty space to me kinda shows an individual locked into
the screen being hand held through his/her activities rather than
someone driving from the front. It reflects a world that has taken
to losing themselves in mobile phones. Buy hey, I've said enough.
Anyhoo it doesn't hurt to expose your world, warts and all, to
show your real side. You shouldn't be afraid to tear down the wall
as Pink Floyd would say.
Anyhoo .. I'm still bloody cleaning. I go from one room to the
next until I thoroughly wear myself out. It is a real drag having
to look after the place. That's why I like the winter, the darkness
and cold hide the creeping mess lurking in the dim light. Spring is
here and there is no hiding so its time to clean. As you do ...
Going now.

The versatility of the Amiga 500
Each of these screens is a different
Workbench used on an Amiga 500.
And here I am using an emulator on an Amiga 500.
