ScuzzBlog: Diaries August 2019
Entry 6th August 2019: Post 01: Apple Macintosh Performa 6320.
Apple Macintosh Performa 6320.
I really have no interest in Apple Mac computers. I find them
dreary and uninspiring. I worked in an office where I had the so
called benefits and attributes of the Apple rammed down my throat
on a daily basis. I also suffered dreadfully in my latter years
when against all advice to the different the office moved over
to Apple only to have to use a Windows emulator to run AutoCAD.
I don't know what it is about Mac folk but even if you don't
ask or enquire about their systems they insist on preaching to
you about the marvel of the Apple line. Kinda dread being asked
what computer I had, just to experience the belittling snigger
and stock reply that I should get a Mac.
Anyway, not of interest here. I was doing my usual checking of
kit and dragged this doorstop ( and yes I do use it as a door
stop ) to the bench to see if it was working. I assume it was.
I do have a Mac monitor but its boxed and propping up the
bench for the Amiga 1000 and 1060 so kinda locked away. So I
simply switch on, listen to the opening chime and then after
around 2.5 minutes I get the squeaky toy and clunk noise which
I assume is saying we are in.
The motherboard on this is tiny and uses the PowerPC. The board
is drawn out from the back. Why they didn't just hinge the front
or slide off I have no idea. Doesn't leave much room to add stuff.
And the power on button is so 'f-kin' annoying cus there is a
screw right next to it and you are like feeling around and realise
you are pressing the screw and nothing is happening.
That was that. It worked. I have included some dreadful video
of the chimes and squeaky toy. I forgot to switch the camera to
macro and only discovered after I got up here. I could have
taken the shot again, but the thought of humping that thing
back down to the bench put me off. Apple you either hate them
or that other thing... I kinda forget. Point is if you like
your Mac, be assured I aint ever going to ask you about it.

Of course Apple's ultimate goal is to give the world the first
computer-less computer. Bit like the emperors clothes. I thought
they had already achieved that, but hey. Just kidding. I'm sure
they are just wonderful.
