ScuzzBlog: Diaries August 2024 Entry 6th August 2024: Post 1: Amiga Music - Extended Play. Amiga Music - Extended Play. Time was when extended play meant having two cassettes. I purchased no end of these tape collections to maximise the amount of music I had on tap whilst I spent hours drawing and designing stuff. The longer the better. Music has always been inspirational and when the Amiga came long it offered the opportunity to customise, adapt and create your very own musical productions. Magazines in the day were littered with free software that turned your computer keyboard into a musical keyboard. Sampling was so easy and like images they could be modified any way you liked. So for many years I had my tape player and speakers hooked up to the Amiga and I would spend hours and hours creating stuff and enjoy mixing the whole bag with images and animation. The problem I had was the storage and given the cost of hard drives I tended to reuse the space. So much of what I did was recycled. I still have fragments of various projects sprinkled across disks, but the meaty larger files that would have been on hard drives have all but vanished. Its a real shame to be honest. I reflect a lot on my years spent sampling, digitizing and using the likes of ProTracker and OctaMed to make music. The era was sprinkled with some classics of the day which boomed out from my ghetto blaster. So I give you three links which in truth have very poor video, but with eyes wide shut you can still recall the joy that dance music of the late eighties/early nineties gave. Rappers Captain Hollywood , MC Fixxit and Hanks and Janks fill the spaces Recollections of playing this loud with my boom box whilst designing. Takes a while to get going but certainly does in the end.
