Balance of Power

OK Balance of Power blah blah.. 1986 .. Chris Crawford Amiga classic
I get all that. Problem is.. why do folk have get me digging through
boxes at three in the morning trying to find things.

I was directed to an article regarding the concerns some guy was
having over the life expectancy of games disks and the moral issue
of copying copyrighted software to maintain the life of the stuff.
This guy obviously never collectefull of download junkies. Most don't
own any retro kit. They live off their emulators and frequent the
nerdy forums so they can score points off each other over what they have.

Chances of any rare game or bit of software not having been copied
a gazillion times is pretty remote. And in the end who cares. To quote
Max Headroom ' If you think you've got a problem then spare a thought
for the moth ' or in the case of retro computers... ' The Capacitor '
I must have a billion of the things here and they are like little
moths slowly eating away at everything. My best hope is that they
leave my best stuff alone at least till I die.

The only way to keep the stuff alive is through the memory of the
games, so the download junkies who play emulators as a way of feeding
their interest may be our best hope. I mean in the age of Star Trek
will Kirk be pulling out his C64 to play his favourite invaders game.
The future is emulation and digital copies of everything. Sadly the
kit will die. If it isn't capacitors it'll be track rot or something
else that will kill the things.

So to Balance of Power ' WHERE IS MY BLOODY BOX ? ' Why do you do this
on me. Couldn't have been Settlers or Hired Guns or Command and Conquer
NO !! It had to be a game that I can't find the box. Talk about needle
in the haystack. Can't be doing this right now.

As to copying.. You can copy the disk but it has an invisible file that
cannot be copied as a file. I can ADF the disk and actually copy to
another disk but not a hard drive. Also this has to be an A1000 game
cus on the 1200 and 500 there is no mouse pointer.

In respect of the game it involves you dominating the world at the
expense of the Russians or Soviets. You have advisors and pick your battles
around the world and see how far you can go before either you or them
push the old nuke. Mostly you are looking at a map and there isn't much
else going on. You basically read stuff and check with your advisors and
then see how it plays out.

There is a cover disk version which I am guessing is the 1990 version
and appeared in Amiga Format on one of their specials I think.

Balance of Power... Not rare. Trust me.
