Scratching my head and not the CPC664
Sad little computer this. The day it arrived I noted the scratches
on the disk drive area. Unfortunately Mr Sugar deemed the 664 unworthy
after what was a very short life span and withdrew the model. And
so finding another was always a challenge. The computer has a number
of minor dinks and scratches. Also the blue keys have discoloured.
I am not troubled by this as in truth the wear on a machine shows it
was used and having so many computers with similar I see it as part
of the history of the machines.
The computer worked up until the spring of this year albeit the last
portion of the keyboard was inactive. I was about to purchase another
keyboard membrane when I discovered she would no longer power up.
I kinda gave up thinking she had finally kicked the can. That was
until today when I decided to have a go at looking at the power
switch. Not exactly successful, but then I'm still in the dark.
See what you think ....
Amstrad CPC664 Released Spring 85 and discontinued the same year.
The language built in was Locomotive BASIC v.1.1
Full QWERTY mechanical keyboard
The CPU is a Zilog Z80 running at 4MHz and has 64KB RAM
Colours supported is 27 and sound has 3 channels and 7 octaves
OS uses AMSDOS and CP/M
Failed... As I went to replace the switch
one of the wires came loose and broke away
The other literally fell off as I checked
it. So both may have been hanging on by a
thread. I labelled the wires and put the
computer back together as I will now need
to solder the wires back in place.
Never mind
