ScuzzBlog: Diaries December 2018 Entry 14th December 2018: Post 02: Spectrum 48 - Tales from the Spectrum Cave Spectrum 48 - Tales from the Spectrum Cave Forgive me for adding a little adventure and mystery into the title but sifting through my Spectrum vault feels like a bit of a dark expedition. I have areas set aside for most of the more popular models and I guess I do tend to neglect a lot of the Sinclair stuff cus basically it doesn't work. Well Spectrums that is. I did spend a lot of time on the auctions back in the early part of 2000 trying to get working versions of the 48. Fortunately they were dirt cheap in those days so you could pick up boxed units for a fiver. I was never minded to fix stuff in those days so I never really checked why they were not working. I have taken to repairing a few of late but can't remember for the life of me how many are functioning and how many are broken. So here goes. Do remember that the 48K Spectrum crosses two boundaries. The first being the earlier 16 version and the later Spectrum+ model so I categorise them in the same group. I think I have a boxed plus somewhere but I really can't be digging it out. Not sure it works. One other point is that I have discovered that the power supplies can be a big problem with Spectrums and I may have been a bit hasty writing some of the units off without checking. Spectrum 48 - To the Cave At this stage I doubted many actually worked. Thats a ZX81 power supply on the left. Later.
