Two weeks ago I finally bit the old bullet and decided to collate
all the disks that I have acquired, misplaced, moved and created
since formulating my first disk list back in 2017. At that time
there were over 13000 disks in the collection. Anyhoo... after
some very long hours sorting disks, creating new disk boxes and
numbering where necessary I have finally punched together a second
list 'ALL MY DISKS II'. The new list has a further listing of 2221
disks, around 500 revised and newly identified disks plus around
225 Amiga 1000 disks that I removed from their previous location.
As of now I can locate each and every disk in the collection and
am confident I can find a disk within say 5 minutes from a standing
start. There are still disks in games boxes but these are all
known to me so shouldn't be a great issue.
I also took the opportunity to log all the contents of my storage
tubs onto the list so I also can now track actual kit from one list.
I have to say it was one hell of a challenge going through so many
disks and checking them off against the old list and updating.
Whilst undertaking the challenge I managed after long last to
beat the game ' Lightning Returns ' on the PS3 and managed actually
to beat the end boss Bhunivelze in New Game + mode which is super
hard especially when he drops DOOM on you. No pressure. I have
ended my PS3 gaming period now as I'm back onto the retro.
In one further update I have acquired the game Nier Automata for
the PS4 though currently have nothing to play it on. My plan is
to get a cheap PS4 after the winter break then splash out on a PS5.
It really is too late in the cycle now to get a new PS4. So I
will wait on the release of the PS5 hopefully later next year.
Just have to wait a little longer to play with 2B.
28th November 2019
I also had an issue with the A4000d on 28th November which caused
me to post the following email on the Yahoo Group I run.....
Hi
Man have I had a struggle this last two days. All started when the
A4000d with the CD ROM in here decided to flip out. I kinda sensed it
was the hard drive giving up, but I wasn't about to let the drive fall
over that easy.
The computer basically went into a spin after the AsimCDFS boot screen.
The hard drive became active on boot with the light flickering with
activity. Then once it hit the AsimCDFS screen it paused and the CDROM
and floppy light came on. Normally the hd light would then go out and
once the floppy and CD ROM light went out the drive would then boot into
the WB screen. Sadly it did not and the hard drive light just stayed on.
The floppy drive was locked out.
I tried to boot on the floppy but the computer just hung on the AsimCDFS
notification window.
So I reckoned with a checksum and just left her running. After a day of
hit and miss I finally got into the WB using a floppy 3.1 Install disk
and was able to check the drive with no errors. I rebooted and I was
locked out again. This pattern went on for two days. I eventually got a
Parnet link up with a 1200 but it locked up before I could even get all
the WB over. I was sure it was a busted drive.
One last chance and this time when I got in I copied the Workbench over
to the Work volume and then formatted the Workbench back to the newly
formatted volume and rebooted. And now she works without fault. I copied
the contents of the drive over using the Parnet to the A1200 and she now
has a back up.
Seems to be working OK. As ever with the Amiga its just a case of keep
trying and with a bit of luck she will pick herself back up again. I
just can't have an Amiga busted, or even the hard drive for that matter.
Many would say get a new CF or what ever , dunno .... I just keep
plugging away at the old kit and somehow it just keep working.
She just wanted a bit of TLC. Pretty essential in here as she is the
only machine in here with a CD and I do need that.
Happy days... man is that the time. 3.30am better go to bed.
