Entry 26th December 2019: Post 03: Amiga - CrossDOS.
Amiga - CrossDOS.
There were very special days using the Amiga when I tripped across
something that just blew my mind. Finding CrossDOS was one such
event. Man was I so excited when I found this software. The problem
with the Amiga was the disk storage. It was so expensive. I was
buying so many floppy disks. I had moved onto the HD drive and the
bigger capacity, but still I was unable to store all my animations.
And then I discovered CrossDOS. I was gifted a couple of old junk
PCs from work and they had ample storage on their drives. But the
computers could not read the Amiga disks. That was until I discovered
CrossDOS. For not only could copy files to a PC formatted disk but
I could save direct to PC disks and so I had a universal floppy
disk system and I could now capture files from the internet and
use them on the Amiga.
CrossDOS was so useful with the ZIP disks and when used with FAT
I could save the long file names on the PC. It was just magic. For
the first time the PC and Amiga worked in perfect harmony without
any barriers. In time I installed AmiPC and linked the two machines.
It all stemmed from CrossDOS. There really was very little the Amiga
couldn't do in truth.
