Entry 2nd December 2024: Post 1: SONY PSone - Schrodinger's Cat.
SONY PSone - Schrodinger's Cat.
First up an explanation of Schrodinger's Cat which I spell wrong
cus by using the correct 'o' I would need to save in YTF-8 when I
paste in the future. Just imagine it has the couple of dots over
the top. Schrodinger proposed an experiment involving a cat in a
box and a vial of poison that would crack open and kill the cat
at a random time. The idea being without opening the box the cat
can be considered both dead or alive. This is some whacky way of
describing some aspect of quantum physics. What ever.
I use the term because it is most relevant to my circumstance.
The other night I watched yet another YouTube video about restoring
a SONY PSone. This is the PSone released in 2000 that was a smaller
form than the original and had less physical features. The year
it was released it outsold all other consoles including the PS2.
I got to wondering if I had one of these, and sure enough checking
the old galleries I obtained a Harry Potter boxed version in 2005.
But where was it located now .....
After a a good hunt around I spotted the rogue SONY PSone grey box
perched high at the back of the main storage area. So far back sadly
it was going to take me all week to dig it out. And so to that
Schrodinger's Cat. With no prospect any time soon of determining
if the PSone is indeed alive or dead I can in the mean time consider
it to be either, and so am neither happy or sad at its status. This
is a factor these days more often that I would like to admit given
that I am less minded to start extracting buried items for fear of
damaging other kit in the process.
At some time the PSone may find its way out off its high shelf but
until then I am more likely to buy another if I was so moved given
they are less than 50 quid on Ebay.
I do also have a PocketStation which is a little easier to find.
The unit is actually a memory card with an interactive LCD screen
released in 1999.
I did start collecting strange and wonderful gadgets from Japan
at one stage but gave up cus there really was way too many.
Sorry for the poor quality of images. It was a little dark
high up in storage and the gallery images are enlarged from the
2005 smaller originals. I would have taken fresh ones had I been
able to extract the box. But hey, it's not like its rare.
