Senseless SuperView Sensible SuperJam.
Well that was one fun packed Amiga day with me all over the shop.
You recall I was going to try and find out about that busted disk
named SVDdb v0.24... well things didn't go according to plan.
I did numerous searches and found myself on Aminet. Amongst the
listing was a game called Senseless Violence. This was too much
a temptation to ignore, so I downloaded the game from 1993 created
by Cas Prince and soon was busting my sides.
The game needs to be extracted from an LHA file. You then place
the fonts into your fonts drawer. Make sure you have mathstrans.
library and diskfont.library in your libs drawer and the game will
play from the Workbench.
Basically the screen is split and this guy comes after you with an
array of weapons. You die immediately to gushing sprays of blood.
I'm pretty crap on the keyboard with the emulator and I couldn't
react fast enough to retaliate. Added to the fact I was creasing
myself up with laughter.
One thing led to another and soon I was firing up Cannon Soccer
which was a little more doable, albeit just as hilarious. See the
guide from Amiga Format.
So could I leave SuperJam alone, could I f***. Just lost myself
in the zone. Man the Amiga can be so intoxicating.
Anyhoo three Amiga computers later and losing daylight I fired
up Dave Haynie's very wonderful DiskSalv2 and I plodded through
a salvage process to recover 'SVDdb V0.24. I sense from the
mangled readme that the guy, one stevenn was a developer of
maybe the Picasso SuperView Libraries, dunno, and this was a
development database. The contents may actually be encrypted. I
can't back that up sadly. I do however have the SVDdb v0.24 data
base, but I have no idea what software uses it.
I was able to recover a lot of the files and tree structure of
the disk, so I am putting that down to a win. So the process was
not a 'Senseless' waste of time. Not exactly 'Sensible' but hey
what these days is, when playing on the Amiga.
And you guessed it .. I'm playing Uridium. Both cover disks from
the era from Format were on these transparent green disks. AK !
Senseless SuperView Sensible SuperJam.
and I will put them on the blog.
again drop me a line and I'll put it on the blog.
