Entry 22nd December 2024: Post 2: Match Day II - The Darren Anderton Mystery.
Match Day II - The Darren Anderton Mystery.
One of the striking things about Match Day II is the picture on
the box artwork of a player that looks very like Darren Anderton.
The game came out on various early playforms in 1987 and my copy
is for the CPC464 on the Amstrad.
Here is the thing, Darren Anderton became a well known footballer
playing for Spurs and went on to play for England. Though he did
play non-league football for a while his career started in 1990
at Portsmouth, some three years after the release of this game.
Maybe it's just me but he even has the same football collar, albeit
a different colour.
I have walked past this cassette case perched next to the CPC for
the last year and have never once questioned that the player on
the box was indeed Darren Anderton. So I have concluded I must be
wrong.
I did try to play the game but sadly it is no FIFA soccer, though
it does try at times to be as annoying. I don't seem to have the
destructions. Just the artwork to the case. May have to get another.
Anyhoo if you are reading this Darren maybe you can explain how
you time warped onto a game released before you became popular.
The game is Match Day II and was created by Jon Ritman in 1987.
