A500Plus - Last of the last

One day at work over ten years ago this guy brought in his busted
A500Plus holding it like some injured puppy. He had had the machine
from childhood but had let it go rusty whilst stored in an old
garage. I told him the poor thing would have likely battery damage
and seriously I have never seen such a worse case. It was just
oozing out all over the place.

In the end I swapped out the motherboard and placed the old board
in dead store, and I mean dead.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago and me tripping across the board
lost behind a pile of papers. I recall a couple of years ago
retrieving the board from a cold damp loft space with a view to
salvaging some of the parts. Man was it dusty.

Anyway, you will see from the damage just how lethal batteries
can be to these poor machines. I decided to give the board a
clean and even try it on the modulator. There was a flicker
and I got the grey screen. Seems there is life in the old girl
albeit in the components that I can take from her.

I am comfortable that I have now retrieved all A500 motherboards
that I have swapped out and stored over the years. I doubt there
are any more. I was once told that owning an A500 meant shedding
real blood to keep them alive. When you have owned one and cut
yourself as many times as I on that blasted shielding you will
understand the term 'blood sweat and tears'. Trust me the A500
and Plus takes no prisoners and there is not another Amiga like
it.. thank goodness.

Here are some pics. The board was in storage for probably close
on twelve years so I make no apologies for the dust and sturff.

Goodnight dear Paula ... Sweet dreams !!
