Entry 10th February 2020: Post 01: Directory Opus 5.5 for the Amiga.
Directory Opus 5.5 for the Amiga.
Directory Opus 5 is one of those magic bits of software that whilst
I could appreciate what it was trying to do, I just couldn't use
it. Thing is I have been using Directory Opus 4 for such a long
time I have it fully customised to my needs. I don't really want
a Workbench replacement interface and I just love my current DOpus.
It all looks wonderful but file management is what I seem to do a
lot of and so 'if it aint broke...'
You can get the 5.11 version both on CD and disk with CU Amiga for
November 1997. The version that I have in the yellow box is 5.5.
The magazine also sets out the difference between 5.5 and 5.1.
For me you can't beat DOpus 4 and with so much work I have done over
the years to get it just the way I like it I can't ever see me using
this update version. I also have the Version 6 on CD for the PC which
again just didn't feel the same. Not sure I know if anyone is still
selling or updating the product.
You can get Directory Opus 4 with cover disk 100 of CU Amiga. If that
isn't available or to your likes then try Dir Works 2 which is the
same thing but a different flavour on CU Amiga cover disk 90.
Personally I can't be using the Amiga without Dopus. It really is an
essential piece of software. Lurking around the web there is likely
to be a disk of the Directory Opus Companion... certainly worth tracking
it down. Remember that if you click the question mark on the screen
you will activate the tool-tip that then explains what everything
does as you click the various buttons and menus.
