CUAmiga - The wonder year.
I sometimes wonder what life for me would have been like if I had
not ventured into Lansdowne Computers back in November 1993 and
purchased an Amiga 1200. It took all but a short while after I
purchased the 1200 to completely change the way I used my down
time. Gone was the drawing board and desk and in came the computer
table and shelves full of Amiga goodies. I never regretted the
transition from paper to computer storage. For one it was less
space consuming.
To think that it has been 26 years since I ventured down this
road and I still am finding fresh and interesting things to do.
For that I am very grateful to the Commodore Amiga 1200, which
for me is more than a computer, she is the first signpost on a
long journey that has saturated my senses and given me so much
pleasure.
Anyhoo.. I tend to reflect on such matters when I peruse magazines
of old and flick through the pages of memories past. So when I
gathered eighteen months of CU Amiga to copy the articles relating
to Photogenics I was again reminded of the days setting up my
A1200 and getting her to take on the challenges of computing. CU
was always filled with very useful guides on how to use software.
They not only gave away free these little gems, but then spent
literally months explaining the 'ins and outs' of the various
applications. DOpus being one such example which revealed itself
over several months.
And so today I feature that fist full of CU Amigas that simply left
me in wonder and amazement at how such a small plastic cased gizmo
could hold so many treasures and adventures for me to uncover. It
was also evident from the enthusiasm of all those involved that
the Amiga was indeed a good friend.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever and ever and ever...
Toward the end of 1995 CU introduced the free CD. The first wasn't
numbered so makes you think if the CD was to be repeated. The next
two were numbered II and III which would have made for an interesting
sequence of numbers. Eventually they decided to give them simple
numbers. I always thought it was a bonkers idea having issues with
disks and issues with discs.
