Amstrad FD.10 5.25 floppy - Quite the conundrum.
Quite the conundrum this floppy drive. Been sitting on the Acorn
5000 since day dot and I had always assumed it came with the BBC
for some reason. When I turned the drive over I discovered it to
be made by Amstrad and called a FD.10. I could find nothing about
the drive and requested help from the Amstrad Forums. Still no luck.
Anyhoo I spent a good while searching and discovered a post that
related to the Amstrad PC-20. This was confusing at the start until
I discovered the PC-20 to be the exact same computer as the Sinclair
PC-200. I do have a PC-200 including the TV/Monitor so it was very
possible the drive arrived at the same time. The back of the unit
has the power and the Centronics next to each other.
The PC-200 was one of the very last Sinclair models. It bombed at
launch due to lack of expansion. The computer is actually an
Amstrad PPC-512 but in a desktop case. I thought the computer
was and is still the ugliest thing I have ever seen. A black case
with slimy grey black keys. Looks dreadful. So much so I don't
think it's been out the box since I first photographed it.
Puzzle solved then. The connectors do not appear to connect to any
of my Amstrads so it can go back on the A5000 for now. I mean the
1512 has the double 5.25" floppy anyway.
