Beginners' BASIC - Useful Books.
A little while back I was asked to advise on a couple of useful
BASIC books to understand retro programming. Sadly I was unable
to find my Clive Prigmore book, which was my bible in the early
days. Thankfully today the book surfaced along with another ..
'Illustrating BASIC' by Donald Alcock. This little gem was so
useful I purchased a second copy.
Both are incredibly helpful and informative. They really do make
the process of programming in BASIC so easy. The Donald Alcock
book is a hoot and a half and I love the way scribbled notes
guide you through the more formal statements.
I guess if I was to add another book to the list it would have
to be any guide for GWBASIC. For me now using BASIC normally
means mucking around on the PC, and GWBASIC is just so accessible.
Doesn't really matter which book you get, they are all much of a
much in truth. But, yay... GWBASIC. Cool.
I can go put back the Clive Prigmore book which was sitting under
a Commodore C64 'breadbucket' no less. So that's what I was doing.
Those books do come up on Ebay quite frequently so keep a search
active and see if you can nab a copy or two.
