ScuzzBlog: Diaries February 2022
Entry 1st February 2022: Post 2: Amiga Computing.
Amiga Computing.
Yesterday I featured the very wonderful Amiga User International.
Whilst the magazine was not a true favourite it did feature often
as one of my magazines to buy when visiting my newsagent. However,
for a guaranteed top read you really could never beat the simply
magical pages of Amiga Computing.
For me Amiga Computing was a slow starter and then eventually became
my most preferred Amiga read. The magazine had a consistent style
and was easy to digest. The pages were clear and to the point, and
the featured articles tended to focus on things I actually had an
interest in. Not only that but the magazine introduced me to so many
Amiga goodies which was a pattern each and every month.
Magazine cover disks were always useful and mostly provided the full
product. The tools and utilities became a must to my Amiga armoury.
I fell in love with the magazine so much I acquired so many older
publications to build on what I had. When ever I have to refer to a
guide or helping hand I first sifted through my Amiga Computing mags.
They were very well thumbed and still have paper tags littered
across so many of the editions with useful pages flagged for ref.
I cannot recommend a magazine more enthusiastically to returning
or new users of the Amiga. The classic era is the 1990 to 1992 time
line with so many really useful disks that helped users with their
Amiga 500 by offering cut down versions of Workbench. But for pure
Amiga goodies the ones featured here that I recently included in my
Amiga tools feature are just packed with useful and informative
utilities etc. They never seemed to skimp on both the content of
their disks or the guides and help within the magazines.
Amiga Computing was very sadly missed when it finally closed its
pages to the world, Few magazines provided the kind of service and
quality of editorial than found in Amiga Computing. Still a great
read and still my first port of call when solving problems.
First issue was 1988 and last October 1997 with a total 117 editions.
The magazine later incorporated Amiga Action.
