Whilst this may look pretty dull I can assure you that in the day
it was anything but. So only kinda dull'ish.

Rated as a pretty clever bit of kit for the Spectrum range, the
VTX 5000 could link the Sinclair Spectrum to Prestel's Micronet.
Prism was responsible for creating a separate area within Prestel
dedicated to news and information related to micros. The service
proved to be a hit with the Spectrum community.

Any user of the Spectrum will appreciate that the computer does
not have a RS232 or serial interface. Prestel added an additional
challenge in that the display was not compatible. Enter the nifty
VTX 5000 modem that sits below the Spectrum and slots into the
expansion connector. The ribbon cable also had a third socket to
permit additional Spectrum peripherals. And in the day no need for
an acoustic coupler as the unit plugs direct into the telephone
socket. The unit was relatively limited outside of Prestel but
for those that used just that system it was ideal.

Dated 1983 and cost around seventy five quid. This is a 1200/75
baud modem with view-data terminal software on ROM. Used with the
Micronet 800 as part of the Prestel network.

Prestel .. 'press telephone' was the UK Post Office ViewData
technology. An interactive video text system. Luanched in 1979.

Anyway .. so it wasn't that exciting. Here is the thing, I have
way more exiting things to do today. And writing a feature on an
obscure retro blog wasn't one of them. Sorry.
