Entry 7th February 2025: Post 1: Life without my 5.25 inch minifloppy disc.

Life without my 5.25 inch minifloppy disc.

In 1976 An Wang of Wang Laboratories first proposed a smaller disc
to the current 8-inch format. And so it was that the 5.25" drive
was born and just the size of a paper napkin. Fable I know but I
am living proof that the legend lives on.

In recent days I have been spending a lot of time with the 5.25
and have been discussing the format with a guy trying to get his
A1020 working with the Amiga 1000. Kinda sad that in the end the
person concerned gave up on the drive and decided to sell it on.
Made me reflect on whether I could live without my 5.25" drives.

'Yeh.. whatever. No chance'. I'm a mini floppy disk/disc nutter.

Here is a quick selection from the collection which amounts to
just a fraction of what I have. The joy for me of the device is
the architecture of the drive itself. Not only is the door mech
and locking latch unique to these machines but the insides are
a work of electronic art. Often computers in their own right the
floppy drive could be mounted in a glass case and placed on display
as a marvel of the computer revolution.

So not really going to happen in truth. I just couldn't live
without my wonderful 5.25" minifloppy marvel.
