Entry 12th February 2025: Post 1: Amiga capacitor at a funny angle.
Amiga capacitor at a funny angle.
I will have to come back to this tomorrow as I have a spent a
good couple of days on the issue and have a camera full of pics
to edit. All I will say is that whilst I was checking over an
Amiga 1200 I have I discovered a capacitor at a funny angle. My
first thoughts were that the capacitor had degraded and leaked.
However I have studied the capacitor at length and whilst it is
possible that the capacitor broke away from its mounting having
leaked, it does not explain how it managed to resolder itself
and move along the pad. The rear of the capacitor has slid down
the pad and is still fully soldered in place. And yet the right
side of the capacitor has its foot fully exposed and naked and
is far further forward than should be and has no evidence it
ever had solder on the foot. There was a lot of debris, hairs,
dust particles and even a possible insect web of sorts so the
area is tricky to clean. Just saying.
I have no answer. The capacitor is clearly at a funny angle. It
is absolutely locked solid. It is not loose. And the kick is
the computer is working without fault. It is the capacitor by
the Video DAC and the picture quality is perfect without tint.
I am obviously aware that this isn't a normal arrangement but it
is just a possibility that its always been like this. Or its a
bit of Amiga magic playing tricks.
