ScuzzBlog: Diaries January 2019 Entry 26th January 2019: Post 03: Checkmate - Last pieces of the jigsaw Checkmate - Last pieces of the jigsaw I do work very hard to keep whole elements of various kit together. So if a computer came with books, software, peripherals and the like I do try to keep the items together. The Checkmate was of a particular challenge given the vast amount of items that came with the computer. For those that don't know I was charged with recovering the whole attic space which housed this computer. I include a picture from the sale of the kit. So when I came across the Microtext and scanner switcher for the Checkmate whilst sifting through a tub, I decided to drag them out and place them with the Checkmate. Sadly the world I believe has abandoned Teletext so the unit is quite useless. The scanner is in its original box and I have to say never been switched on. The printer is retired to the floor below. I really do not like printers. Anyway that was that for today. Soon be tomorrow and the whole thing just starts over again. Do remember that the point of the blog is literally to record what I do each day in retro heaven. Checkmate - Last pieces of the jigsaw Checkmate A1500 System by Checkmate Digital Limited An A1500 ( prior to Commodore version ) with A500 fitted Included also is an A590 XT 20Mb version sidecar with half Mb plus additional external 50MB hard-drive, 5.25 and 3.25" external floppy drives, and a 1084S monitor. The machine is fitted with the 2.04 OS and version 2.0 Roms. Probably retailed for about £1200 in its day Other features for this machine include the Megachip 2000/500 giving 2Mb of chip RAM, the Multistart II which allowed the installation of the Kickstart V2.0 ROMS, Workbench Management System 2.0 by TTR, teletext add-on and scanner.
