Entry 24th January 2020: Post 01: Amiganet - Ethernet network system.
Amiganet - Ethernet network system.
AMIGANET is an ETHERNET Network System for the Commodore Amiga
range of microcomputers and workstations. It was designed and is
manufactured in the UK, and continues HYDRA SYSTEMS' involvement
since 1982 in the Networking of CBM products.
AMIGANET is the only Ethernet system to offer Amiga-to-Amiga
(peer to peer) communication, and Amiga File Servers.
This Manual accompanies Rev.1.0 of the Amiganet Local Area Network
product for the Commodore Amiga range of Microcomputers.

I am guessing that amongst my cards and maybe fitted to one of my
A2000s there is one of these boards. It would be unusual for me to
have such a detailed manual with crib scribbles and not have the
board that goes with it.
What I found fascinating is the depth and complexity this software
and card went to basically transfer data across networks designed
for the Amiga and for Amiga usage exclusively. Or so it seems. I
have not read the document all the way through but from the scribbles
I started to get a feeling that the user of this manual was seriously
employed in networking Amigas. In truth the user's notes are far more
revealing than the written word itself. They give an interesting
take on the usage of the software and the card.
Whilst much discusses CLI commands it appears it was possible to
access remote discs from the Workbench. The convention follows the
same system as for Parnet by editing the mountfile by renaming RH0:
to the name of the directory you wish to access.
I will study the document further and do some digging as to the
possible whereabouts of the Amiganet card. I have a couple of ideas
where it may be. I know this will not prove interesting to most
reading here, but the historical nature of this document gives a
good level of understanding of networking in the early days of the
Amiga.
Ask around this question and see what comes back .. "Does anyone
remember the Fidonet tech based network called "Amiganet"..?"
And do not confuse Amiganet with the PD Software house Amiganut.
I include for now images of the Commodore 2065 Ethernet card just
for reference purposes to give some context.
