Entry 2nd July 2018: Post 01: Checkmate 1500

A1500 Expansion System - The box

Not sure I have shown the image of the A1500 box on the pages
before so here goes. This A1500 was kindly donated to me from
a guy in Bristol. The unit is complete and I also have the keyboard
though they did get separated for a while. The box isn't in the
best of condition. Appears to be a stuck on large piece of artwork.
All the same, represents an interesting piece of Amiga history.

The Amiga 1500 was not a Commodore product as it was basically an
Amiga 500 inside a special case. I sense the Keyboard is an Amiga
500 keyboard converted and housed in a metal casing. Without it
you really are dead in the water as a traditional external keyboard
will not work. This unit is labelled the A1500 Expansion System. My
other 1500 is the Checkmate version. Not really sure of the origins
of the systems and whether they are by different companies, or same.

The A1500 Expansion System

The keyboard went a hiding for a while
but I found it lurking with my MSX machines.

This is my siting of the Checkmate proper.

Sorry for the tungsten light. Golden glow
so I can show off the monitor screens.

The unit is Parnetted to the A2000.

This is my actual Checkmate 1500 from St Helens.

A metal case through and through and no yellowing.

The A2000 has a dodgy hard drive that sticks
sometimes on boot. Always works eventually.
The drive was stuck when I first had it. With the
the GVP just stand the computer on its side for a
day or worse ... hit it. Seems to work.

This is the A1500 from the box featured.
Images are from an earlier scuzzblog diary.

Check out the INDEX for Checkmate blogs.
I have two of these units albeit one is the
Checkmate and the other the A1500.

Both work.
