Entry 4th July 2019: Amiga Demo Scene - Welcome to the Party

Amiga Demo Scene - Welcome to the Party

In a recent blog I may have been a little cruel when I suggested
that a demo party probably consisted of a few guys meeting in a
lounge somewhere watching home made demo disks. Obviously that was
not the case and here is an image from the Equinox site with link
below showing one such party meet. Also I include some links to
an event featured on YouTube.

OK record set straight, and trust me I have no idea what a
party was like having not been involved in any in the day. For me
music mix videos were always something I created on a video player
and or camera and I have never been tempted to use the Amiga to
achieve the same thing. For one my video mixes lasted for three
hours and included clips from best loved comedy. I digress.

And so to the purpose of today's blog. My aim here is to show
just what I do when I create an Amiga demo disk for evaluation.
Basically I grab one of my numerous demo CDs that I have. I then
copy the dms or adf file and de-crunch the disk. I then take the
disk from the A4000 and place it in the adjacent Amiga 500. Once
I have recorded the content and given the disk a reference I then
ADF the disk and place in the demo vault.

I show the process below and include two demo videos for reference.

Amiga Demo Scene - Welcome to the Party

First I insert the CD into the A4000d
and check over the contents.

Show all files reveals all demo files.

Next into DOpus to copy over a demo file.

The file is transferred to RAM.

I then make sure I have ADF crunched
the contents of the current DD disk.

I then place the ADF file in the vault.

ADF processes take about 40 seconds.

OK time to de-crunch the DMS file.

For this I use the SHELL. To use DMS
you need the tool in 'C'.

Checks the content of the disk.

I then transfer operations over to the
Amiga 500 and boot into the disk.

I discover the disk is not a demo.

The disk contains a text based game.

So I repeat the process with another file.

This time we have a disk full of demo
titles and logo artwork.

Third time lucky and a cracking demo.

Monoxide by Vanish.

This is a selection of some of my CDs.

And this is the one I am working thro
at this moment. PDSoft library.

There are 1000 demo files on this CD.

The demo featured is included above along
with another that I created. Takes 40 seconds.
