Entry 22nd July 2019: Post 02: Amiga 1200 WB3.1 to OS3.5 and back - Part II.
Amiga 1200 WB3.1 to OS3.5 and back - Part II.
I hooked up the Quick Drive and plugged the unit into the PCMCIA
port. My understanding is that the Quick Drive is the PCMCIA
interface and not exactly the CD-ROM, and there is even some
discussion as whether there is some kind of link here with the
ill-fated CD expansion for the A1200 that never transpired.
Next I installed the software for the unit and checked it all was
working fine. I couldn't get the unit to see my home burnt Boing
Bag disc so I burnt a new disc and that worked fine. So I then
installed 3.5 which went without a hitch and soon I was looking
at the HDToolBox which although was showing the full capacity or
the drive in the main heading was again only picking up 8GB of
the drive.
I was undeterred and so created two further partitions and formatted
them no problem. So I now had 8gb on an OS that looks truly crap
and which needs the accelerator really to work properly. I just
wasn't in the mood to unravel the ravelling with the initial
setting up of the drive. This involves using the Emergency Disk
and starting over. I just do not like 3.5 so that was that.
Time to go back down the hill.
