ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2019

Entry 28th July 2019: Post 02: Canon PowerShot G7.

Canon PowerShot G7.

Like I say I am not an electrical technician or engineer. I have
very little understanding of electric and or the inner workings of
a computer. So how do I get by making computers work for so long.
I guess I cheat. Since the first day I had a problem with a
computer I first found a helpful engineer to assist and or I bought
spares so that I could swap stuff out. And that is how the collection
started in truth. Me buying stuff just in case.

So how does this apply to the Canon. Well readers of the blog know
that I managed to destroy a Canon G7 first by taking the end of the
lens cover off with a more than venomous Amiga 1000. Lowering
the tripod without checking camera clearance is not a good idea.
And next, always remember where you left the tripod and don't
turn and knock the thing over. The camera took a heavy fall and
literally rammed the lens so hard into the unit it locked it at
an angle, destroying the camera.

All was not lost. So what I do ? When I am in need of something
but unwilling to pay high prices I basically run a daily search
on Ebay and then wait. These cameras still are quite expensive.
However one did come up and I made an offer that was not accepted.
It did not sell so I waited for the auction to close and placed
a bid and won. There were very little pictures of the condition
of the camera so I had to wait and see.

Seems this camera also had had a bang with a dent in the side.
There was also a screw missing. The screws to the Canon are unique
and are a particular problem with the MkII of this camera which
has a folding screen. So it was very useful having the spare
camera. Also I have the original box and all the various other
elements of the package. This replacement came with very little
so it was good to be able to put a working camera back with all
the goodies in the box.

So I never throw anything away. I keep the packaging and never
give up on kit. There is always a way, and in truth I have always
found buying replacement parts quicker and cheaper and way more
successful than actually repairing stuff. I always make use of
the surplus. Really never know when it will come in useful.

The other day I was wanting to complete a box set for the C64C and
was amazed that I could acquire the missing items from Ebay. Even
if they hadn't been there I still leave a search running and just
wait.

And finally just one thing... I am a strong believer in the old
saying it really is better the devil you know. So if you are happy
with something, never be forced into a change just cus the spoke
comes off the wheel. There is nothing that can't be replaced. So
keep an eye out and work on setting matters straight. There is far
too much waste in this world, and yet so much stuff has plenty of
life in it... You just have to try harder.

You don't have to keep making new friends all the time.

Know what I mean... VIC20 restoration job Part I
What a guy !!! ... VIC20 restoration job Part II

Now that is what I call dedication to the cause
