Entry 6th July 2020: Post 1: Amiga 1200 - Strange golden glow.
Amiga 1200 - Strange golden glow.
I'm sure that this computer was the pride of someone's life in an
earlier time. The Workbench has been customised with the most
horrid colours and uses the worst font possible. It has a teeny
tiny hard drive and the most modest of software. The A1200 also
glows a distinctive golden yellow to the front face only and the
keys also. The colour change has only really altered to the very
top surface and if you take a look at the side and rear you can
see that for some reason the colour change did not affect the
other surfaces. The colour change is also consistent across the
full surfaces affected.
This computer works perfectly and I chose today to go a hunting
for a failing capacitor but could find none. The hard drive is
strapped in with string and by the laws of old 2.5" drives
really should have fallen over by now. Both hard and floppy show
no signs of any fault.
I was concerned the video may have failed with the blue tint but
checking by booting a floppy the Workbench is the perfect grey.
I am never troubled by the fading colour of cases. It really
is something that impacts more on some machines than others. For
me it distinguishes one from the rest. This computer like all
my Amigas is very special and she persists by keeping working.
Long may she continue to glow.
