I have over 13300 Amiga disks - Day 1
I take much pride in the fact that over the years I have amassed
over 13300 Amiga disks. The number is close to 13,500 in truth.
I have always held the view that maintaining my actual original
disk collection is more important than simply downloading and
storing digitally. That statement to many will make no sense
given the life expectancy of disk data and the issue of retrieval
cus of the numerous disks needed often to perform certain programs.
Any one disk can fail rendering the whole process pointless.
I don't have problems with Amiga disks. If stored properly and
held in disks boxes and protective sleeves, and maintained in a
suitable environment, the disks never fail on me. It never crosses
my mind. Disks just work, cus I look after them.
I do hold copies of what I can copy in ADF format and store the
archive on any number of computers. Backing up has always been
very important to me. That applies to everything I own.
My disks are stored in numerous double and single disk boxes. I
also have drawers full of disks, large and small. Some drawers
are purpose made for disks, others are just cupboard drawers.
In addition I have small library disk boxes and working sets in
special disk box carriers. I do have a massive table full of
duplicate copies of cover disks and of late I have been placing
selective sets in home made disk containers.
All my disks are filed in a simple NOTEPAD document containing
details of the contents, disk number, location and disk box. It
takes me around two minutes or so to find any disk. I have always
removed disks from boxes and stored upright in plastic sleeves
in disk boxes which are covered. I do like hard drive installations
cus it means I can safely store the disks away.
The majority of my disks are product originals or PD issues. I do
have copies of software on disks, but most of my copy disks are
data storage.
So what have I been doing these last few days. Well... I thought
I would photograph each and every box to show just how many I have.
I have not photographed all 13301 disks, but instead taken a
picture of each of the boxes. This includes all the various home
made and library disk boxes also.
The following is an example of the archive list. I have considered
publishing the full list but have decided not to do so. Here is
Disk Boxes 1 to 3 and all the other boxes will be reviewed over the
coming days. So just a small 'smidge' today of what I have.
