ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2024

Daunting challenges - Kinda creeps up on you.
I doubt anyone wants to admit that they are getting older, sadly
for some of us we have been getting older for a pretty long time.
It is a truth that the Amiga community is ageing and I am one of
those people that spent a good percentage of their life in a world
before home computers. OK I'm a good deal older than most of my
computers. So what is this daunting challenge ?
For a while now I have been wanting to take some more images of
kit that I have neglected to update as part of the later blogs.
Two of those items are the Amiga 1500 machines in the special box
and the original blue red Commodore box. I have had cause to take
the machines out over the years to check the batteries, however
there is trapped in the colourful boxed version of the A1500 a set
of the original documents including the warranty etc. None of these
documents have been properly recorded. It's worth noting from my
searches on the internet that I may be one of the very few that
own the original packaging.
To the dilemma. Sadly all of these big box machines are stacked
in and amongst other big boxed machines and they are neither easy
to move nor lightweight, if you know what I mean. I also have
quite limited manoeuvring space. The thing is that a few years
back I wouldn't have flinched at turfing the stuff onto the bench.
Sadly with time my legs and back have become a little more fragile.
I find myself more and more these days resisting moving the heavy
stuff. It has become more and more of a challenge.
Sadly I have so much stuff stacked behind towers of tubs and with
each passing year become ever more remote from ever being viewed
again. It is a sadness but one that I guess I knew was coming but
have chosen to ignore. My legs being what they are now I don't
think it is worth the risk. Kinda upsetting if truthful.
I am not giving up just yet and have no plans to abandon my beloved
collection. That is not in my nature. However, I do have to accept
that I am unable to lift a lot of this stuff onto the bench any
more so I will have to rely more and more on my old library images.
The last thing I ever considered when preserving the kit was the
ageing of the very thing that kept it all alive ... 'me'. Time to
get recapped I guess. I do wish it were that simple.
Funny that when I was looking at the 'SysInfo' stats for the A1500
just how underpowered the thing was. I'm guessing the Amiga 1500
has been here for twenty years. A gift from an electrical engineer
in Watford. The computer has the most bewildering of origins given
the move by Commodore to out flank the Checkmate. Kinda unique in
many ways to the UK. Most Amigas in the UK were a little more
colourfully presented and certainly the A1500 box is just that. Like
I say not something I have ever seen outside of this house. Would
be wonderful to get some more images of the box and contents. I
just need to hook up some winches and pulleys.. or not.
Ar hum ... Onward.
