Entry 30th July 2024: Post 1: Amiga 1200 - Why I bought a brand new A1200.

Amiga 1200 - Why I bought a brand new A1200.

So why on 25th April 2002 did I buy a brand new Amiga 1200 from
Analogic in London ? In truth I think it was cus I was surprised
I still could. Not sure where I saw the advert but as soon as I
did I was on the phone to Analogic ordering my new Amiga 1200.

Since the very first years of having the 1200 I had become most
nervous of what might happen if she breaks. The monitor had
already fallen over once and so I got to thinking about buying a
more new Amiga 1200.

The Magic pack gave me the perfect opportunity to build a newer
replacement system with extra added trumpets. This meant a better
faster accelerator in the form of the Apollo 060, a new modern
monitor and CD-ROM with Squirrel interface.

Sadly the Apollo was a disaster so I purchased the Blizzard 1230IV
and the SCSI KIT.

Amazingly the computer sits in its box, just as it has since 2002
and has never been used. Such a shame, but Chantal my beloved 1200
just keeps marching on. She will outlive me I guess.

At the very time of getting the Magic pack I was heavy into the
Amibench online shopping site and purchased the EZ Tower and the
A1200 called Spike. This kinda gave birth to the Workshop as a
more bona fide duplicate Amiga workspace and I soon had replicated
the ZIP, CD-ROM and external SCSI drives. The computer was fitted
with dial-up modem and I spent endless nights on the groups.

It wasn't too long before I got a little more adventurous and was
buying the Amiga 4000T. Man was that an exciting day.

On the PC front I expanded on the Win98 machine to include a new
Evesham XP machine with onboard CD burner using NEO and with the
network now growing in the house I very quickly was able to carry
data from various locations to the CD burner. I really had entered
into a new era with the computers and this prior to Ebay and my
activities with the Yahoo Groups. I hadn't even started collecting
computers seriously at this point.

The next era of computer collecting started in February 2003 with
the dawn of Ebay. Seriously bonkers !!!
