ScuzzBlog: Diaries June 2019
Entry 2nd June 2019: Post 01: Apollo 060 - Alien Breed
Apollo 060 - Alien Breed
Times for me on the computer have always followed the same kinda
pattern. I will spend a good time using software to create and
edit data, images and files etc and whilst doing this I will often
get the urge to play a game. I always knew if a particular game
was enjoyable cus I would get a warm glow as I reflected on firing
up the game. I have to say I have had so much fun playing Alien
Breed, and it never failed to give me that spark of joy when I
paused from what ever I was doing.
This was a game that I purchased early on in the Amiga 1200 era.
It was a disk based game and had an absolutely magical opening
sequence plus music. I would often just leave the music running
while I did other things. Talk about addictive games, this one
is a killer to put down, as I discovered again today. The game
still loads up no problem and works like a dream. Nothing too
complicated as you work your way through the various levels. I
do like the map view style of game where I can see the evil
creatures in the next room before I enter.
Today I was testing my 1200s that I fitted the hard drives last
year. You may recall that I took half a dozen Amiga 1200s and
treated them to new 2.5" hard drives that I had obtained from
China. The computer featured here today is the 1200 with the
Apollo 060 inside. My goodness is she fast. All the machines I
upgraded with new hard drives last year carry a little star or
symbol by the drive light.
All my games are stored in disk boxes and generally in plastic
sleeves. They stand upright as I have explained before. This
particular box holds my favourite Amiga games and ones that run
generally off the disk and not the hard drive. I say generally.
I also carry next to the disk box a plastic box with some of my
favourite cover disks with classic game teasers on them. I would
certainly recommend anyone with an Amiga 1200 getting hold of all
these games as they truly are classic.
Always try to get the boxes and enjoy the artwork of the cover art
plus the internal contents. Its well worth the expenditure. After
all.. Alien Breed cost me £27 in 1994 and seriously worth every
penny and still functions today.
I have no idea how I managed to get three boxed versions of Alien
Breed 3D. Don't think I bought it in the day. There was a time when
DOOM cloans were all the rage and we had so many of them. For me
I have never enjoyed the format.
Anyway, the A1200 was working fine. I include some snapshots of the
SysInfo of the speed... which is off the grid plus the numerous
hard drive volumes that I created on the disk. The monitor used is
the black CDTV Commodore monitor and she was working just fine
also. So having had a spin round with Alien Breed it was time to
put the Amiga back on her shelf.
It's what I do.
