Epson HX-20 - The thing has a battery
When I featured the Epson HX-20 recently I decided I would not
struggle to retrieve the computer from behind the storage boxes.
This would have been a massive challenge just to find the thing.
So last night I am drinking my tea and watching a very informative
video from Tezza's classic computer collection and looked on in
horror as he revealed the bloody thing had a battery inside.
' You gotta be kidding me !! '
And so I set too getting the box from behind the storage tubs
to open her up. Sadly the one screw in the corner had been over
tightened. If you have repaired a lot of old computers and kit
from the eighties you may have come across the practice by some
computer businesses to over tighten one screw. Very notable on
Acorns with the one screw inside in the centre being almost
impossible to remove. Same with the GVP sidecars.
So I got my driller killer 'undo-eee' thingy and set too trying
to remove the screw. A delicate process, as the case is plastic.
Anyway I removed the screw and then simply cut the batteries
from the unit. I did check the motherboard and she was fine.
So I took some pictures and put her back. And my tea was cold.
Don't so that again Tezza.... m'kay.
