Entry 16th June 2019: Post 02: Birmingham Blues
Birmingham Blues
If your a lad you must have played Battleships at some point in
your life. Twas never hangman it was always Battleships. So when
I was sifting thro the disk boxes the other day I decided to fire
up Battleships.
Actually the disk is a 'COMPLIATION DISK ' spelt incorrectly by
SHAZAD from Birmingham.. my home city. Trouble is it didn't work.
I was able to check the whole disk over and really it should work
but it doesn't. A touch ambitious having all those games on there.
Maybe that was the problem. There is a tool on there from AF or
Amiga Format though games do not match any edition of Format.
So I set too digging out all the games to see just what the disk
would have looked like. I used cracked versions to give it that
authentic feel.
So was I impressed. Not really. Space Invaders is always a hoot.
The funny one is the PD game ROX cus I thought it was bust cus
all I could see on boot was these two eyes looking at me. Turned
out they were not eyes, they were your starting score of 00. I
then clicked the joystick and I was a way. Of all the games it was
the simplest but the most addictive and fun. I was able to test
my joystick skills. The funniest was Amoeba cus I was balancing
a big white board with my right hand trying to block out the
light. Still cleared it though.
Not a wonderful set of games. I played the disk on the 500, 1200
and even the 1000 but still didn't work. I'll do some more digging
but I guess I've done that one to death. And as for Battleships
I think the game was undervalued and should have been developed.
I have this idea for 3D Battleships set in outer space, where you
play online and design your own space vessels and submit them to
a massive library that everyone can use.
Word of warning .. the videos are truly crap. I am waiting for
my video grabber to arrive and hopefully things will improve.
