Entry 14th June 2023: Post 1: Amiga Game - Global Effect.

Amiga Game - Global Effect.

If you thought climate change was a just a recent concern then
think again. The games creator Millennium were planting the green
seeds of eco friendly attitudes to the planet way back in 1992.
The Amiga game Global Effect places you in charge of your enclosed
eco system and you must manage the environment as well as the
economy in your challenge to build a thriving community.

This Sim-City style emulator charges you with nurturing an eco
friendly society as you attempt to balance the ravages of mineral
wealth and natural resources and their impact on your world. The
game challenges you with natural phenomena such as earth quakes
and volcanoes, together with adversaries who are hell bent on
destroying your green dream.

The game has three options one of which is to try to save the
world from a nuclear winter where large parts of the planet are
uninhabitable. The polar icecaps are expanding to the equator
with the resultant impact on populations. Your challenge is to
reverse the ecological damage. There is also scenarios in which
the world is becoming poisoned and polluted and causing global
warming. Sound familiar.

To be honest I have never played the game, and although I trouble
myself with the issues of global warming, I just can't see me
finding these challenges very entertaining. I sense I would just
get more troubled by the real world problems we face today.

Anyhoo if you're up for a bit of 'climate change' eco war then you
just may snag the game and have a go.

The game was designed and conceived by Toby Simpson. Graphics and
intro design by Rob Chapman. Music by Richard Joseph.
