Entry 14th June 2024: Post 1: EZ-Tower Backup - An Amiga Tsunami.

EZ-Tower Backup - An Amiga Tsunami.

I don't think any amount of pictures and words could describe the
chaos my recent home repairs have had on my Amiga world. To me it
was going to have minimal impact but sadly dragging desks off walls
and moving kit and disconnecting my web of wires caused more chaos
than you can imagine.

I had decided to leave matters in the workshop a few days but being
without much of the archive left me a little deficient. The tower
backup was going to be a challenge, I knew that. The number of files
and disks meant a lot of travelling backwards and forwards. Trouble
was a lot of what I had had already been replicated and so it was
a case of needing all my kit up and running.

You would think that would have been easy.

Seriously I have only tonight completed the re-connecting of the
Amigas in the Workshop. The last of my A1200s, my best'est and most
precious had a hiccup with the one SCSI drive, but a few moments
under the bonnet and some tender words did the trick. Amazing that
after some thirty years she still powers up and works just fine.
I do love my first A1200. Life wouldn't be the same without her.

The blasted tower on the other hand is just a recipe for disaster.
It is not that she is unloved, it is just that she would be way
more comfortable in a proper Amiga case. I know she has all the
PC benefit, but she is such a mess, and sadly a mess of her own
making. Guess I'm stuck with it. She works, after a fashion.

I have used the tower as a general dumping ground for all those
music files, archived files and video projects. She has some very
large drives and has ZIP and HD Floppy on hand. She is a dream to
access information, but to transfer to other machines a pig.

Simply finding the space and availability on other machines sent
an Amiga Tsunami of data out across loads of machines. I was just
amazing how many computers I've used this last couple of weeks.
And this on the back of my chaos from the recent works. I struggled
on and eventually got everything I needed onto the emulator and
also backed up for use by other Amigas.

Sadly I haven't been able to get the emulator to run the tower WB.
I sense the IDE-Fix is stopping the process. I'm too worn out at
the moment to take matters further. I wish I hadn't added such
large images of Lara Croft to the WB. They do take up a fat load
of memory. Shouldn't grumble.

I have been creating my very own Lara Croft images on my AI Art
site and they have come out remarkably well. Maybe too well.

Anyhoo I have no idea where I am at the moment. A day with the
hoover tomorrow and a mountain of disks to put back, including
quite a few ZIP disks. I have to say after all the fun and games
it really is a wonderful feeling when all the Amigas are gently
ticking away in the background, happy as 'pigs in muck'. I guess
I better go eat something before I fall over myself.

Happy days.
