ScuzzBlog: Diaries March 2020
Entry 1st March 2020: Post 02: Amiga 2000 - more 2000 shuffling.
Amiga 2000 - more 2000 shuffling.
OK this I did not expect. I had thought that the second 2000 under
the Amiga monitor was an old crock. Turns out to be anything but.
The confusing label was the one that said it had no hard drive.
What it should have said was not bootable hard drive. For inside
is a slave drive from an A4000 I believe, and filled with Amiga
goodness, yummy.
She is a lovely machine this and very well presented I have to say.
The A2000 I thought this was is currently acting as a shelf to
three Sinclair Spectrum 48k and my small tub of IBM 5.25" disks.
Not sure how they got mixed up. I'll check that another day.
Suffice to say this computer works a treat, you just need to boot
from a floppy drive. I could change the status but in truth with
old drives especially on the GVP cards I don't write anything to
them. With my luck they fall over.
Anyway I salvaged what I was looking for today and will show exactly
what I have been up to in a few days time. For now though here is
the A2000. I can't recall if I removed the battery or it was already
removed. Doesn't look as though it has deteriorated worse. You
would be wise to check any battery removal at various times as it
is possible for corrosion to surface again. The 2000 is a worry cus
it will normally attack the pins on the CPU or worse the socket.
Be afraid.. very afraid. Or not.... It's raining again.
Whilst checking thro the disc I found a drawer with the previous
owner's website. I formatted a floppy and copied the html file and
discovered an old member of PAmiga. Amazing really.
PS. Whilst I was moving stuff around I found one of my lost Powerplay
disks. This is part of quite a large set of disks that was included
with special packs of the Amiga, notably Cartoon Classics. I am so
desperate to complete a set, so finding this was a welcome sight.
