Entry 29th March 2022: Post 1: CUAmiga - DIY AIR Link.
CUAmiga - DIY AIR Link.
So what was the most obscure thing given away on the cover of an
Amiga magazine ... A PCB or small circuit board. With the November
1997 issue of CUAmiga the magazine shipped an AIR Link unpopulated
board that anticipated you, the reader, would build into a remote
'thingy-me-bob' for controlling your world from your Amiga. Mine
is still taped firmly to the cover of the magazine.
[I quote ] Wondering what the circuit board is on the cover ? It's
an AIR Link a new easy to build DIY project that will let your
Amiga take control. AIR Link is a specially redesigned version of
an existing project called InfrAREXX. The completed device plugs
into the joystick port on any Amiga and acts as a general InfraRed
receiver and transmitter [ end quote ].
Sadly not something I was ever likely to do. However the cover disk
for this particular edition had the very sexy DrawStudio Lite. Which
really was a hoot and a half.
By the time we get to 1997 CU were confusing the pants out of their
readers by printing two versions of the mag. One with CD and the
other proper version with the two floppy disks. I can't believe that
this was a very efficient way of publishing mags.
Inside is the usual plethora of informative articles and picture
galleries. I do love the picture galleries. Unfortunately the whole
magazine is spoilt by a dark sinister double page advert for the
evil forces of Apple. Something I will discuss in tomorrows blog.
Anyhoo.. I'm off to play with Tifa in Final Fantasy. As you do.
