Amiga Format: The 1200 years
It is sad to think that most active years for the new Amiga 1200
happened after Commodore went bust. No sooner had the computer
released when sadly Commodore closed it's doors for good. Not sure
what the motivation was for Amiga users of the day to stay loyal,
but loyal they were and in truth it took a mighty long number of
years before the Amiga community finally accepted that Commodore
were not coming back.
So reflecting on the publications of the day I am always moved by
the volume of pages produced in various magazines. The period of
1994 and 1995 were probably the busiest I ever saw them. The shelves
of my local newsagents were filled with Amiga related magazines.
And game shops like Electronic Boutique, Game, Virgin, HMV etc
were filled with goodies to feed the Amiga.
So strong was the following in the day it was truly sad to see the
numbers eventually ebb away and dry up. Never quite fading away
but sadly never quite the mad frenzy it was in those early post
Commodore closing days.
And so here are the magazine covers of Amiga Format for those years.
Incredibly the publication would last until the new millennium before
folding the pages shut for the last time. For me it was a glorious
period in my life. Something that burned deep into my soul and
changed me forever. The Amiga is more than a computer, it is real
passion. I would be lost without it, even after all these years.
Enjoy the memories.
