Entry 17th November 2018: Post 01: Nintendo Gamecube
Nintendo Gamecube
I have been searching for my Nintendo 64 and came across my boxed
Gamecube. I bought this unit from new back in the early 2000s and
in truth it has been sitting in the box since that date. I did play
Rayman for a while, but with an active PS2, XBOX and Dreamcast I
really didn't have a place to play this console. It is what I would
call cute.
Sadly when I opened the box today I discovered a small mark on the
casing. I have no idea how it got there as I am super careful and
I had the unit in its original plastic bag. I doubt the console
was used for even a month. I am tempted to think it is a fault
with the surface. Who knows. With 22 million of these sold I doubt
they are ever going to be rare. You can buy one for as little as
£15 currently on Ebay so no biggy. Just annoying really.
I fired up the console and played a while but found the gameplay
a little dull now. I did play all my consoles through a SONY
Trinitron 14" TV which although sharp kinda isn't comfortable to
use now as I have gotten so use to a monitor.
The Gamecube was released in Japan in September 2001 and was
discontinued in 2007. I must have bought mine in 2003-04. Not
sure. I recall them being stacked up to the ceiling in GAME.
The operating system is Dolphin OS and uses an IBM PowerPC which
is a Gekko 486MHz. Storage is via the Gamecube memory card. Graphics
is provided by an ATI Flipper running at 162MHz. Sound is Dolby
Pro Logic II.
Mine is fitted with a modem that I purchased, though I don't think
I ever used it.
The predecessor to this unit was the Nintendo 64 which I feature next.
Anyway she is back in the box for another 15 years.... YES 15 years !!

That mark I was talking about.
