ScuzzBlog: Diaries November 2020
Entry 19th November 2020: Post 1: Sinclair Spectrum - R-TYPE.
Sinclair Spectrum - R-TYPE.
The other day I was digging through a pile of Amiga 500 boards to
grab this wonderful game. I knew it was in there somewhere. I had
the previous week spent some time cleaning the Spectrum and just
couldn't resist a play of one of my favourite scrolling space
shooters.
I guess in the day this game was all the rage. Not simply cus of
the fast and furious game play, but also for the way you collected
those magical weapons and just had a blast. The game never gets in
anyway boring and even on the Spectrum in black and white it really
is a wonderful experience.
I was having such a hoot that I transferred my pilot duties to the
Amiga emulator and fired up not just R-Type but also R-Type II. If
you have never played these games I seriously would get hold of
some copies. You will not be disappointed.
R-Type for the ZX-Spectrum 48K by Electric Dreams Software (UK)
and created by Bob Pape, Mark Jones and Robert Hylands in 1988
The game was ported to the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, C64, MSX
and the Sega Master System.
