ScuzzBlog: Diaries November 2024 Entry 01st November 2024: Post 2: Word Wizard - Finally got there. Word Wizard - Finally got there. When I last spoke I was trying to get the Checkmate to read a PC disk to try and discover the history of one or two applications that I know were resident in the home of the Checkmate back in the day. Sadly what I hadn't realised was that the Checkmate was not set up to read CrossDOS. Originally the Checkmate had a PowerPC card and an emulator, it still has the RAM disk in the start-up. But no CrossDOS or drivers for the DF1. A lost cause. The disks 'Word Wizard' proved quite illusive but finally I did track the software down on Moby Games. Dated from 1994 it was a word puzzler for Win 3.0x. Thanks for that Moby Games. I used the Amiga 1200 up in the big room and the 5.25 inch drive and was able to interrogate the diagnostic set of disks and the pro scan disk. So CrossDOS was working, though pretty useless without the emulator running. I also found the receipt for the software in the disk box , made out to Mr Lomas... I think that is what Lovejoy would call providence. All you need to prove history and authenticity. And so I moved the disk boxes to the Checkmate collection. Home safely.
