I was sucked into watching a YouTube video where the guy featuring
the case was so enthusiastic about this product, as though the C64 was
reborn. I guess that is where I start to have a problem with this.
Please note that these are my own very shallow thoughts but my very
first question when it comes to buying one of these is ' why '?
What is for sale here is a replica case that houses a modern computer.
In truth you could put the guts of this in an actual bread-bin with
a plug in USB keyboard it would function just the same. I have to
say whilst I applaud the efforts to recreate the look of the C64 I
would have found it more palatable if they had also replicated all
the internal components and sold the unit a modern working C64 and
not just the emulator.
Probably just me but if I was going to invest in a computer that I
was going to use extensively I doubt I would like to be hunched over
a C64 bread-bin case. My hands are bent and crooked enough as it is.
I do applaud those that try to keep the legacy of the older computers
alive, and am always in awe and wonder at the electronic wizardry
some perform to keep the older kit alive, but using a replica case
to house a modern PC for me is a little cheesy.
Saying that if someone made an official one hundred percent replica
of a whole C64 or better and Amiga 1200, complete with warranty,
validated and approved by the Commodore owners and sold in the shops
as a new product, I guess I would buy one. Probably buy two.
With what has happened here this week with the Win7 machine and the
announcement that Win10 gets dumped next year I know I have to buy
a new machine. The one I shall buy will be a Win11, HP tower with
the best NVIDIA graphics card I can afford, so I can play my Steam
games, Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft. I will also get a PS5.
I need a machine sold with warranty and a very good air supply. This
Win7 machine arrived here is February 2011 and had it not been for
Norton activating all these moronic validating processes on boot I
would have used her to the day she finally fell over.
One thing is for sure I will not be relying on a small factor PC
housed in a replica case of any computer.
Anyhoo ... that's just my six penn'orth worth on the matter.
If you would like to see what a real C64 looks like being unboxed
then click my link below. I love the C64 but only if it has a SID. And
please do not be deterred by what I say, supporting such ventures
is truly admirable.

Entry 03rd November 2024: Post 1: Commodore 64X - Replica case.
Commodore 64X - Replica case.
Back in April 2011 a company called Commodore USA began shipping
replica cases for the Commodore 64. Dubbed the Commodore 64X. sadly
Barry Altman the founder of the company died and production ceased.
Fast forward several years and the product has been relaunched,
albeit the Kickstarter hit a hiccup with a cease and desist notice,
though this was ultimately resolved.
That being said, my knowledge of this product comes from the site
of Bo Zimmerman who features the product as a modern computer PC.
