Entry 18th October 2019: Post 03: King of the Nerds - The PlayStation Era.
King of the Nerds - The PlayStation Era.
I had intended there being only one post today. In truth it was
going to be part of my recent post regarding Windows95 as I simply
was going to explain what happened after I gave up with the 95
computer for gaming and purchased the PlayStation. I got kinda
side tracked by the comic thing with Lara.
After failing to get the Tomb Raider game working on the Win95
computer I purchased a PlayStation. I was not disappointed. I
had intended leaving the console sat next to the TV in the lounge
but when I got it I just couldn't put the thing down. And so I
bought a SONY Trinitron 14" and sat it next to the main computer
up here. And so began the PS1 era.
After a long day at work it was just magic to be able to pick up
where I left off the night before on the PlayStation. First though
I would blow off a bit of steam playing Ridge Racer Type IV or
Tony Hawkes and his skateboard. The main feature though was
always a story based PlayStation game like Tomb Raider or Final
Fantasy. These games were so absorbing and I guess I played them
way too much. And yet today I am here still playing Final Fantasy
XIII-3 on the PlayStation 3.
The period for the PlayStation lasted up until the PS2 came out.
During that next phase of my gaming era I also played with an XBOX,
Dreamcast and a Cube. Man was I hooked on the console games. My
first love was Lara Croft with a close second Final Fantasy. I guess
I would have gone with Final Fantasy, but they really let me down
in the later years.
I feature here by example of the era the Electronics Boutique sales
brochure. I did love visiting EB cus the guys in there knew all
there was to know about games. If I was stuck I could always rely
on someone there lending a hand. It is sad indeed when you look at
that last image here of the stores they closed when they went pop.
And so with that ended also the PlayStation 1 era. The last game
I played was Fear Factor which I never actually completed. I recall
having to go into hospital for an operation and I was playing the
game whilst I waited for a taxi. I never did pick it up again.
Twelve months later and I was on the PS2 so it all changed. Don't
worry I wasn't in hospital for twelve months, but I was kinda
restricted on what I could do. All I can say is the console was
put away and never really used ever again. And I have two. But then
I am a bit of a nerd.
