Bayko - Be careful what you play with.
I was on the hunt for an old comic and ventured deep into my very
old childhood games stuff. Inside a very dusty box that had not
been opened for an age I discovered smaller boxes containing my very
first building construction kits. The name of the product was Bayko,
named after Bakelite. The Bayko Building Sets were sold from 1934
to 1967 and originated from Liverpool. These were the creation of
Charles Plimpton a plastics engineer.
To put this into some kind of time frame the kits I had dated from
before they first put a man on the moon and England had just won
the World Cup... I shall say no more. From the building plans and
guides you can see I truly wore this lot out. I moved on from the
kits to LEGO and eventually to the real thing as an architect. So
be very careful what you expose your children to growing up cus it
can have a lasting impact.
To be honest I was always more interested in the way buildings were
constructed. The building process is a fascinating subject and when
you reflect that all buildings are the result of detailed drawing
and specification work, very often from a 2D model on paper, then
predicting the outcome can be both exhilarating and quite worrying.
The point being, you better make sure you get it right. Buildings
are very expensive to create.
Some of the boxes containing the kits were Ilford photographic
paper boxes, which were from my film development era whilst at
college. Sadly no computer stuff in the box, but I found my comic.

Here is one I designed myself.
