ScuzzBlog: Diaries September 2017 Entry 9th September 2017: Post: 3 Unable to open WHDLOAD I kinda felt a little odd buying my first CF card for the A600. It really just didn't feel right one bit. The thing is like a silent intruder occupying one of my beloved A600s. The thing works just fine but sadly has ripped the heart out of the A600. I mean what do I need 4GB of hard drive for on an Amiga 600. I have had to put the thing away. Gave me cold shivers. What is worse it is full of stuff which references something called WHDLOAD. What that is I have no idea. ALl pretty alien to me and something I am trying to forget. I was then much happier firing up the A600 with the conventional 2.5" drive which just sings. The combined noises of the floppy and drive makes 600 just feel so much better. And sorry, but unless there is some kind of hardware issue with the other 600 this A600 with the 2.5" works way faster and accesses the drive much much quicker. I also like to hear disk activity. I can read the computer from the disk activity. I did run the A600 with the CF for a while booting from 2.1 off the floppy but made no difference to the slow nature of the disk access. Just need to keep all my 3.5" and 2.5" drives working. The trick is to keep booting them up each day for a spin. So what is the point of having it ? OK One more Amiga on the pile The intruder lurks inside in the form of one of these new fangled CF card thingies The light on the screen is the curtain behind me Has a load of these WHDLOAD folder.. No idea Has its own cute version of DOpus so I can nick some of those buttons I tried running the thing off a 2.1 floppy but couldn't improve the speed. Very slow. In the end I had to dump the thing and reconnect my trusty A600 on the pile The computer without the CF is way faster in the speed of accessing drawers and volumes The A600 is not blessed with any great speed so having a drive (CF) that slows things down isn't going to be much use to me This way I can avoid this nonsense
