ScuzzBlog: Diaries September 2025
Entry 7th September 2025: Post 1: Amiga 600 - Into the grey - Danger Danger.
Amiga 600 - Into the grey - Danger Danger.
Continuing on with my series of boring blogs about how to create
a boot start up disk so you can have basic Workbench functionality,
today I show what happens if you use your startup disk in an A600.
Danger Danger !!!
Don't be alarmed if you hear a siren go off whilst reading this
blog. The UK government have chosen today to send mobile phones
an emergency alert, just in case. They haven't said what you
should do if you get one of these alerts. I assume panic.
Reminds me of the Faulty Towers episode where all the guests wait
in the lobby for the fire alarm to go off. Basil has one of his
usual tantrums moaning at the guests cus why would they all be in
the lobby if there was a real fire. It really is a British thing.
So we are told to expect an alarm on the phones. Thing bout an
emergency for real you have no idea when its going to happen. I'm
pretty sure if there was a national problem most would have been
aware of it. Anyhoo I switched the phone off.
K' back to the Amiga 600. So I bung in the self booting disk I
created on the A500 and like magic we are now into the grey of
the 2.0 ROM. You need very little on the boot disk as the ROM
does everything else.
My version of Workbench is -1.0 .. incredible.
Again I am just demonstrating that there is really no reason not
to use your Amiga just cus you don't have an official set of the
Workbench disks. With just a handful of AmigaDOS commands you can
interrogate a disk, rename it, format it and on and on. If you
manage to acquire all of the Workbench files you can create your
very own Workbench disk. Not sure how legal it is but in truth
you didn't simply copy a disk, you made it yourself.
DANGER DANGER !!
What would the day be without a problem. I lost the 'p' key. Can
you believe it? So tomorrow I will have to open the A600 up and
give her a jolly good thrashing with a tree branch. Hopefully
that gets the keyboard working again.
