Entry 16th September 2025: Post : Amiga Sleepwalker game - Who's the idiot now.

Amiga Sleepwalker game - Who's the idiot now.

Two days I have spent going through my stuff to put together this
blog and I have to say when finally getting to play the game it
really wasn't worth it.

Anyhoo ...

In 1993 Comic Relief teamed up with Ocean on the game Sleepwalker
and for its efforts received four pounds and twenty nine pence
for each game that was sold. On the opening splash screen for
Ocean you hear the voice of Harry Enfield stating the game was
for Comic Relief.

The game is a Lemmings style game where you play a dog called
Ralph who is tasked with saving Lee who has jumped out the window
whilst sleepwalking. Simply avoid him waking up and guide him to
the exit.

I see the game as more of a Thomas the Tank Engine game where you
have to try and memorise all the obstacles over the coming areas
so as to guide the young boy safely through without waking up.

The game was created by CTA Developments and programmed by John
Scott and David Pratt. Graphics by Richard Cheek and Nick Harding.
Music by Barry Leitch.

The challenge for me these last two days was to get a working
copy of the game.

I checked my records and the boxed game with disks is packed away
deep in tubs and totally inaccessible so I had to go find other
disks. For some reason an original Disk 1 was in Disk Box 44 and
Disks 2 and 3 in Disk Box 2. Sadly the slide had lost the spring
to Disk 1. I also clocked that this was the A500 ECS version.

I found Amiga Power Issue 23 which had a demo on the cover disk.

I also found three cracked copies of the disks which were lurking
in my seedy stash of disks acquired from various collections that
have found their way here.

I have shown a selection of the other games in the respective disk
boxes which I have to say on reflection would have been a lot more
fun to play.

Onwards ....

I pulled an Amiga 1200 from the shelves and was most pleased that
the hard drive and floppy that I fitted were still working. Her
case wasn't that much more yellowed and she was working fine.

The Amiga Power disk worked without fault and I was soon in the
game playing Lemmings with a silly dog.

My original set of three disks failed to load the game properly
with graphical issues that indicated a game not suited to the AGA
on the A1200. They worked on the A500 in the box room. I did have
to spend quite a bit of time getting these disks to work. They
were in need of the 'scuzz' touch of revival to get them working
properly.

Finally I tried the cracked disks and these worked no problem. I
did try to ADF them but they failed to load when I created the
ADF image. You basically get a disk requester and that is all.

I sorted out a few magazine reviews and sense they were being a
little bit more complimentary than usual, for Comic Relief sake.
Personally I cannot believe I spent all that time on a game where
I seemed to spend most of my time pushing around a young boy
kicking the poor kid from platform to platform. Bonkers.
